The Virus

So the story goes like this.....3 car nuts, eBay stock options, and a unquenchable thirst for speed.....

The players:

Justin, the first to bring us down the addiction to go fast STi parts and power sliding. He started the whole STi purchase trend with the purchase of his silver 2004 STi. Trading in his z28 for some Japanese rice, we at first thought he might have been taken over by hostile aliens or worse yet played project gotham racing one to many times. Upon purchase of Justin's STi he immediately went to a club event at Thunderhill with the NCRC. Discovering the future potential of the beast Justin decided he needed more power. Immediately he contacted our local go fast crack dealer Shiv at Vishnu Performance Systems and got one of their first Beta Stage 1 kits. Included in the kit was a new turbo back exhaust and XEDE piggy back computer with custom programming. Justin laid down a nice healthy 254.5 HP (a 405hp Z06 there only put down 308, I think I'll hit a more reliable dyno: See Chapter 5) at the wheels on Shiv's dyno. Shortly after he met up with the guys at I-Speed USA and had a set of Omori gauges installed in his STi which he purchased from J-Spec Tuning.

Erik, the second to fall victim to the curse. After being given the chase around by all the Bay Area dealers and treated like a 16 year old boy. Erik discovered Subaru of Santa Cruz and on one rainy day decided to whip out his eTrade check book and plop down the dough for his very own AWD super car. Wait, correction his wife Carolyn whipped out the eTrade check book and wrote the check...that was the deal he gets the car she gets to write the big check. Fair trade in my opinion. If only all of our women knew what is in store for them as they started their new lives as our race support crew chiefs/umbrella girls. Erik immediately started ordering go fast parts himself including a PSi3 to monitor all of his new toys vital signs. After this Erik and Justin began harassing our next cast member to purchase a STi since he had been talking about it for years. Lucky for them Shane had about as much self control as a drug addict when it comes to purchasing cars.

Shane, the third victim who "didn't want another car he would turn into a race car" bought his STi anyways. His second new car purchase in 2003 besides his Miata, the STi was to be his daily driver. As you can imagine we all know how this works in car junkie speak.

Daily Driver (normal person): The car you commute to work in.
Daily Driver (car junky): Race car with whatever tread is left from your R compounds over the weekend of racing.

Shane swears he will be nice to this car and not drive it like a mad man. This lasted all of a day. I mean with 300 hp on tap from the factory who can stay out of boost?? Even his girlfriend Natalie when she drove it was addicted to the go fast pedal. She went from thinking it was a ugly car, to a ugly fast car. Hey thats a improvement if you ask me, that means she will drive it and drive it hard. So with the "break in" procedure complete Shane gets invited to a event on Monday January 19th at Thunderhill to film a video for Hooked On Driving. Thanks to Doug and Wayne over at the NSX Files which the three of us had been reading at work for weeks now. Thanks go out to Mike Hedlund who works with us for showing us the page. The three of us decided it was time to enter Defcon 5 and go to Thunderhill for a weekend of racing and filming.

So the three of us go to our first track day together, welcome everyone to the rathole........and our climb up the Pyramid of Speed
